ABOUT US
Our Mission
To provide support to all those affected by breast cancer.
Our History
In 2005, Bosom Buddies was created as a project of the Breast Health Foundation, to form a "breast cancer chain of survival", with the intention of redefining perceptions of breast cancer and promoting a positive mindset of survival, recovery and quality of life.
What We Do
Bosom Buddies provides emotional support to men & woman affected by breast cancer at point of diagnosis, during any treatment and thereafter. Run by volunteers, the "buddies" create a loving, warm and compassionate environment in which they support not only the breast cancer patients but also their spouses, partners, parents, children, siblings and friends.
When a patient is diagnosed with breast cancer, trauma and shock are experienced by both the patient and those close to him/her. It is enormously comforting and helpful to be able to identify with someone who has been through a similar ordeal. Our buddies guide and provide information to patients and loved ones through challenging times.
Our Support System
- Telephone Calls: - Patients and their loved ones are linked to a buddie who provides support telephonically.
- Public Meetings: - Approximately every six weeks a public meeting is held where breast cancer patients and their support systems can listen to talks on issues related to breast cancer and also connect with other patients and survivors.
- Other: - Walkathons, Spinathons, Golf Days, and many other breast cancer related events.
"Buddies for Life"
Gone are the days when the breast cancer patient felt the need to keep his/her disease hidden from society. What better way to cope with the experience than with the comfort of a buddie?
